Norrmal Aches and Pains?

I love being pregnant and have actually been happy to experience some of what many fertile women complain about because I felt that it was reassurance that things were moving along well in my pregnancy.  After my little scare with the contractions 2 weeks ago, I'm starting to get nervous that every pain or change might be a bad sign.  I really don't want to over-react to things, but I also don't want to overlook something that could be serious.  Here are the things that have been happening to my body recently that have worried me:
* Pain in right side of my lower ribcage.  It's right where my belly stops.  We found out at our ultrasound not too long ago that the baby was head down, so I'm guessing his feet are just jabbing me in the ribs.  Usually if I put my hand there I can kind of move whatever it is that's making me uncomfortable down.  No problem, right?  Well, when I was reading my pregnancy books, they casually mention that pain in the right side of the ribs could be a sign of pre-eclampsia.  Yikes!  Of course, I don't have any of the other signs of that and the pain in my ribs is not serious, but I can't help, but worry.

* Last night I started having some sharp pains in my lower groin area.  They remind me of the round ligament pain that I experienced late in the first trimester and early in the second one.  Although this time they don't seem to go away quite as quickly.  When I consulted the internet, it sounds like it's either more round ligament pain or just things stretching out as my body prepares for labor and delivery.  Neither sound scary, until I was reading through the booklet they gave us at childbirth class and of course, one sign of pre-term labor can be pain in the abdomen.  Hmmm.....I'm pretty certain this pain is in my groin area, but still.

How come it seems like so many of the normal aches and pains of pregnancy could also be signs of impending doom?  It kind of reminds me of how the signs of very early pregnancy and AF heading to town were very similar.  It's so hard to know the difference.

  1. I'll be praying that all your aches and pains are just the normal pains of pregnancy, and your body preparing to birth that sweet little boy you're carrying-- but not for several more weeks of course :)

  2. Sending prayers your way! I've called into my clinic a few times with questions about what I'm feeling. There's no way for me to know what's normal and to be expected. Hoping things go smoothly for you over the next two months and beyond!
