Are You Pregnant?

Yesterday morning at my office we were having a reception for one of my co-workers who recently had a baby.  Actually she was due at the end of June but had the baby in mid-April, scary early!  Since she’s back to work now they had a little reception for her and she brought the baby with her. 

I was standing by another co-worker’s cubicle chatting with her when the co-worker with the baby pushed her stroller past me.  She stopped and blurted out, “Are you pregnant?”  I was a little stunned.  Maybe I’m crazy to think that I don’t look pregnant yet in my clothes, but really, is it appropriate to should this out.  I responded that yes I was pregnant and she reached out and touched my stomach and said, “Oh look, you already have a belly, it’s bigger than mine was.”  Um, okay?  First of all, my stomach is not sticking out far enough for it to be appropriate to touch it.  We are pretty friendly so I wasn’t that uncomfortable with the fact that she touched me, but I thought it was really odd that she said I was big since I remember her looking very pregnant when we came back to the office after Christmas and her baby wasn’t due until June!  Sometimes she says things that she doesn’t really mean, or don’t make perfect since because English is not her first language.  Oh well, I guess I just won’t worry about, I’m sure there are many more strange moments to come during this journey!
