Today was a great day! I couldn't believe how excited I was about our ultrasound today - I thought I would still be really nervous, since I've been nervous at every single doctor's appointment so far. But until I got back into the room I was really only excited. I was excited to see how the baby had changed during these past 11 weeks and to find out if everything was okay with him or her. Plus, I figured if the tech could tell us the gender, it would be an added bonus. When I laid down on the table, I was nervous again, but she got started pretty quickly so there wasn't lots of time to dwell on it.
Before the tech began the scan she asked if we'd like to know the gender and we said, yes, as long as you can tell. She also told us that she's very detail oriented and she would narrate the scan, but wouldn't be chatting with us because she likes to really focus on the baby and how everything is measuring and looks. She said not to take her silence as a sign of any problems. I really appreciated her telling us that and also liked how carefully she looked at every single thing. I made me feel so much better about the whole thing.
Everything looked great - it's amazing how much detail you can see during the scan. The chambers of the heart and the shape of the nose and face and just everything. At one point the baby was holding up just one finger and then showed off all five. It's really so amazing to see what's happening inside of you.
It was also really easy to tell the baby's gender. It flipped around just a few moments into the scan and she said right away, it's a boy and there are it's parts! She also asked if I had something chocolatey and sugary for breakfast because he was moving around so much. I did have some syrup with french toast this morning which probably caused all the moving. In hindsight, maybe not the best plan, but I liked seeing him moving all around anyway. We still managed to get a few cute photos!
Overall, an amazing day. We are so happy and blessed to have a healthy baby boy!
