Doctor's Appointment

Our first OB appointment was this morning at 10:45.  The quick version is that everything went well and the baby looked great.  If you want the long version....

We started our appointment off with an ultrasound.  The tech was really nice and also pregnant.  She said the baby was measuring 10 weeks and 6 days (so two days ahead).  She said that would change my due date, but my doctor didn't, so I'm still going with my EDD of January 1st!

After the ultrasound and a really long wait in the exam room (Seriously, it was so long that I actually put all of my clothes back on and went to the bathroom.  I always think about doing that, because I instantly feel like I have to pee as soon as I put on that paper gown, but have never actually left the room!) we had our appointment.  My OB is the gyno I have seen for the past 5 years or so and I really like her so I felt very comfortable.  She knew what we had gone through in trying to get pregnant and was actually the one who referred us to our RE.  The appointment was great.  She gave us lots of information and answered all of my questions.  The only change she's having me make is that I'm going to start taking prescription prenatal vitamins and she also recommended a calcium supplement (which I was taking prior to pregnancy, but stopped because it had a warning label on it) simply because I don't have a very calcium rich diet.  Basically, everything seems on track and the odds are looking good that we'll be having a baby around the new year.  Most days I really can't believe it.

I'm still planning on telling my boss tomorrow....I'd rather wait a little longer, but she's leaving on a three week vacation very soon, I think telling her sooner will be better.  Any advice about breaking the news to your boss??

  1. I don't know about your boss, but I found it easiest to just be upfront and factual about it. Pretty much just a "I wanted to let you know that I'm pregnant." Reassure her that it isn't going to change how you do your job (hopefully not much at least) and you're not looking for special treatment, etc. Maybe a bit of leniency on some thing depending on your symptoms and when you get farther along.

And Yay! for a great appt!

  3. I am so glad it went well!!!
Just go ahead and tell them quickly, it is awful when people come in your office and look scared adn say they have to tell you something . . . . you think they are going to quit and I am sure you wouldn't want to scare your boss like that!!!
