The One with the Wand

Since AF arrived on Sunday, I called the RE's office first thing yesterday morning.  The first girl I talked with told me that I would need to come in today for a baseline ultrasound (CD 3) and then talk to a different girl to schedule my HSG.  I scheduled my HSG for next Tuesday, which is great because my doctor will be back from vacation and will be the one doing the procedure.  Yesterday I got at least 4 calls from the RE's office.  First they called to confirm that the surgery center was available for the HSG.  Then the billing department called to make sure I knew that my insurance would not cover the HSG and that I knew the price of the test.  She was also able to tell me the price of the ultrasound I was scheduled for.  Then a different nurse called twice, both times after the office was closed (I missed her call both times too), to say that she didn't understand why I was scheduled for an ultrasound.  It was totally confusing.

I called them immediately after they opened this morning to find out what I should do.  Of course, the nurse who called me yesterday wasn't in yet so the nurse I talked to said that I should not come in and just call around 8:00 when the first girl would be getting in.  I did leave my house before 8 and was heading towards the office, but definitely not early enough to make my 8:15 appointment.  When I called this time, the nurse had just gone in with a patient and the next girl said I should go ahead and come in.  This is when I started freaking out (I tend to overreact sometimes) - were they going to perform an ultrasound that I didn't actually need?  My insurance covers nothing so I really didn't want to pay for an unnecessary procedures.  Plus now I was going to be late for my appointment and even later for work than I wanted to be.  Ugh!  Not a good start to a busy day.

To make a long story short even longer, I got to the office about 10 minutes late.  I had to wait a few minutes and by the time I went back to the room I was really worked up.  The nurse was really sweet and explained everything to me.  I had my first experience with the wand.  It wasn't bad at all.  I'm not sure what I was expecting, but it was quick and totally painless.  The plan for this cycle is that I will take Clomid for 5 days (beginning today), have my HSG next Tuesday (if there are any problems with this the cycle may be canceled), and have my 2nd ultrasound to check for signs of ovulation next Friday.  It I have at least one dominant follicle, they will give me a trigger shot and schedule the IUI for next Saturday.  I'm really crossing my fingers that everything works out.  Each little thing also seems to be really expensive.  I think I'm going to start a list of how much everything costs to include on my blog.  Just to remind myself how fortunate I am that we can actually afford these procedures.  In affordable news, I got my Clomid filled at Target and it was one of the prescriptions on their discounted list so it only cost $9.  I was really happy to hear this from the visibly pregnant pharmacist.  Does anyone else feel like pregnant people are everywhere you look these days?

  1. Phew, I'm glad everything got settled. I would have been a stressball too! It's normal protocol to have a baseline u/s on CD3, so it's probably good that you had this done. Good luck with the HSG next week (make sure to take a few xstrength advils beforehand!) and hoping for some nice follicles from the clomid!
